The New Parent Support Program is a support system for Marine Corps families with children ages five and under. This free, voluntary program has been available at 17 Marine Corps bases all over the world since 1993.
Home Visitors provide individualized support services specifically tailored to your family's needs and can address a variety of topics such as managing difficult behaviors, education on child development, and improving family communication, as well as assisting families with information and resources on the installation and out in the community.
• All of the programs below are available at no cost to military families
• To sign-up, please call: MCRD 619.524.0805
This two-day class is the first step in preparing expectant Marines to be confident and competent parents. First time expectant parents can benefit from this educational and informative class. Infant development, social and emotional changes in the family, baby safety, diapering, bathing, soothing a crying infant, and community resources are just a few of the topics covered. Current information about infant care and local resources is crucial to build strong families and this class provides a solid foundation for infant care.
• Classes are held the 4th Tuesday and Wednesday of each month from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM
• Registration is required
Home Visitors work one on one with families to enhance their parenting skills and provide needed support. The Home Visitor helps families learn to cope with stress, isolation, deployment and family separation, as well as the every day demands of parenthood. Any Marine family with a child five years or younger is eligible to receive these services.
Home visits are arranged, when possible, at the convenience of the Marine family. Maximum effect is achieved when both parents can be involved. Your Home Visitor may be a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Psychologist (PhD or PsyD), who has extensive knowledge of the issues confronting parents in the military. Sensitive to the many challenges and unique stresses of military life, the Home Visitor will be available to clients for questions and concerns.
Raising children is hard work! Parents, come join us to learn creative ways to achieve balance and manage the stresses of the daily parenting grind. Take care of YOU, too!
Behavioral Health Services is hosting a workshop for parents and their young children ages 3-5 years of age. Parents and their children will learn how to manage intense feelings using healthy coping skills. This interactive experience will help strengthen your child's positive social skills, and will help prepare them for preschool and kindergarten.
Becoming a parent can be a huge adjustment! Moving into the world of parenthood from couplehood can be joyful, but overwhelming too. In this class, participants will be able to learn about, and ask questions about the many changes that becoming a "parenting team" involves, and how to keep relationships strong.
