The Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) will continue an eight-year tradition on September 26, 2009 with the MCRD San Diego Bootcamp Challenge. This three-mile obstacle run is the first event to kick off San Diego Fleet Week and serves as an open house to the community.

The fun and furious course features obstacles used only by Marine Recruits at MCRD and is the only time that the course is open to the public. Runners are “encouraged” by Marine drill instructors (DI’s) as they battle the three miles of paved roads and hard-packed dirt all while taking on more than 50 obstacles. Runners will hurdle hay stacks, crawl through tunnels, maneuver fox holes, and navigate trenches, while stopping at DI manned push-up stations. These “recruits for a day” can participate as individuals or as three or five-person teams where all team members must cross the finish line together.

The MCRD San Diego Bootcamp Challenge concludes with an entertaining post-race party with vendor booths, activities, music, food and refreshments. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each category and age group and an official race T-shirt will be given to all entrants.

Race day schedule
Race starts at 9:00 a.m. – you will be going off in 5-minute waves, starting with the individual elite men & women, then individual men, individual women, then 3-person teams, then 5-person teams. Day of race registration & t-shirt pick-up opens at 6:30 a.m.

THE COURSE

3-mile obstacle course on paved roads and hard-packed dirt – flat and fast. Over 50 obstacles to complete, including hay jumps, tunnel crawls, fox holes & trenches, cargo netting, and push up stations.
