MCRD Summer Camps offers a comprehensive summer program for boys and girls ages 5-14. Here you'll find something for everyone, a balance mixture of traditional day camps, and along with specialized sports camps, academic programs, performing art, creativity arts, environmental awareness and of course fun!
COST OF CAMP + BEFORE + AFTER CARE CAMP
Camp is $100.00 per week. There is also a before and after care camp which costs $40.00 per week.

VOLUNTEER TEEN VIDEO PRODUCERS WANTED
Apply with the Media Arts Center San Diego. Interested in a career in video production or multimedia? Here’s an opportunity for you to earn and learn the needed skills. Media Arts Center San Diego’s Teen Producers Project, in partnership with MCRD, is seeking three youth producers [ 17-20 years old, military family member ] that can be Production Assistants starting now until the end of August 2009. Must have transportation and be interested in this type of work.
THE HOURS
Production Assistants will work 150-200 hours total as part of the “Involve A Youth” Initiative over the next few months.
THE PAYBACK
For your time you'll receive a video camera and tons of knoweldge about the movie industry and using Final Cut Pro. The software knoweledge alone can open up doors to your first big job.
You'll also learn camera techniques such as: lighting, audio, tape logging, scripting, narration, interviewing, creating titles, using Soundtrack, and all other aspects of producing short videos.
WHO RUNS IT
Media Arts Center San Diego, producer of the San Diego Latino Film Festival, started the Teen Producers Project ten years ago. Since that time, over 1,000 youth have gone through the program and over 300 videos have been produced.
HUCKFIN FISHING CAMP
HuckFin Fishing Camp: Voted # 1 favorite camp by last year’s summer camp participants. Our fishing instructor has the knowledge, patience, and experience to meet all our children fishing desires. Whether their novice fisherchildren who just wants to spend a relaxing day out on our fishing platform or catchin’ a big huckin’ fish out on the deep blue sea …this is the camp for you… So we are calling all halibut, tuna and sand Bass lovers, as this camp is for you.
Your week will be filled with fishing etiquette, the environment, boating safety and how to fish, learn how to use a rod and reel, the rule of the sea, deep sea fishing, safe boating, pier fishing, camping, canoeing, kayaking, and leadership skills. Children will also be able to earn huck-bucks for the Super Auction at the end of the week for great prizes.

HuckFin Environmental Education is committed to providing students an incentive program, which encourages them to attain a high level of academic excellence. We award students with environmental and fishing field trips to improve test scores, attendance, and behavior. The Huck-Fin program encourages success through responsibility, teamwork, and dedication.
EARTH CAMP
Earth Camp is an exciting, educational, and safe opportunity for children ages 5-14 to enjoy outdoor recreation while they will learn about our environment which will help them realize their own potential influence on mother earth. Each day includes activities such as learning about native plants, purchasing planting, and conservation, nature’s arts and crafts, and trips to the Chula Vista Nature Center (an internationally recognized zoo/aquarium, exhibiting plants and animals native to local marsh and wetland habitats) a community garden as well as a trip to garden shop here at the Depot...Life science at its best!

TENNIS CAMP
Youth Summer Camp open to players of all levels from beginner to intermediate, ages 5 to 14, all must have a desire to play and have fun... The focus of the camps is designed to help encourage both physical and personal development of the campers through the acquisition of solid tennis skills taught in a combination of group and individual setting. Good sportsmanship, fun, and the development of general physical coordination skills lie at the core of the MCRD tennis camp program...This is great opportunity for children planning to participate CYT Tennis League!

Karen Ronney is a certified United States Tennis Professional with over 25 years experience teaching children and adults of all levels and abilities. She is a former ranked junior, a NCAA college standout and women's pro tour player. She represented Tennis Club Ruppur in Germany and competed extensively throughout Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the United States. She has the knowledge, skills and charismatic coaching style that makes learning tennis fun and rewarding for all students.
SOCCER CAMP
Soccer Camp is designed for beginner through advanced level soccer players. Individuals are placed in groups with participants of similar age, size, and ability to ensure a beneficial training environment. Through this program, our supportive team will create a challenging environment for children giving them the skills, knowledge and tools for their success.

MEDIA CAMP
Media Arts Center San Diego’s Teen Producers Project comes to MCRD! From July 20-24, meet new friends, create your own videos, and learn valuable video production and multimedia skills. In one week, working with professional media arts instructors, you’ll produce your own digital story and learn about lightning, camera angles, audio, interviewing techniques, and digital video editing. A field-trip to CBS News is also scheduled. Meet Morning News Anchor, Nichelle Medina (a Marine Spouse with 6 deployments under her belt). Sign up today! THEATER CAMP
This Camp is aimed at children between the ages of 5-14 with lots of imagination and dreams ....so if you want to experience the magic of theatre arts! Please spend a summer week with us learning music, dance and acting skills....be the first on your block to see Wicked, the story of the witches of OZ. This is one of the longest-running shows in Broadway history and then we are going behind the “Emerald Curtin” to meet the cast and crew (must be 8 to see the show). We will also spend a day at “Camp Broadway” where cast members will spend the day teaching the children here at MCRD a Broadway number.

It boasts high-quality productions throughout the year and offers numerous educational and community programs, including classes in drama, voice, dance, and theatre production for children age three to eighteen. With shows ranging from Our Town to Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Junior Theatre offers a memorable theatrical experience for audiences of all ages.
BASEBALL CAMP
Our Baseball camp is appropriately competitive for kids age 5-14 all the skills and thrills of baseball are taught through fast-paced drills, skill-building exercises, and game-speed scrimmages. Coaches focus on the essential skills of the game-fielding, catching, throwing, hitting, and base running-to enable young athletes to play with confidence and have fun. Emphasis is placed on understanding the rules and etiquette of the game through creative and constant participation. Sports baseball camp concludes with an end-of-the-week game, allowing young athletes to showcase their talents...we are also planning a trip to the ballpark..Hot dogs, popcorn, candy and our Padres’ ....life is good.

Champions Sports Academy (CSA) is the youth educational sports training program developed by the Hall of Champion San Diego to provide a diverse curriculum of sports skills training, life and leadership skills to athletes, coaches and parents. CSA has programs that reach the broader sports community with an emphasis on the underserved and at-risk market. CSA partners with many local corporations, business leaders and professional, collegiate, high school and youth sports organizations to support the ever expanding programs. The mission of CSA is to teach athletic, life and leadership skills using sports.
CULTURAL CAMP
Covering the world through dance…learn all about the different styles from Mexico, Brazil, US, Pacific Islands, and much more. Our children will learn Mexican dances, their origins and their ancient traditions with dances from Veracruz, Jalisco, Chiapas, and Chihuahua. Discover the Brazilian art form of Capoeira, developed by African slaves in Brazil over 400 years ago. Capoeira simulates combat in a graceful, yet physically powerful form of body expression and incorporates acrobatics, dance, and martial arts all set to traditional Brazilian music. From the US, it’s all about Hip Hop…the dance corresponds to body movements with harmonize the beat and rhythm of the music. In this dance style, you can find lots of breaking, popping, locking, and free styling, while movements indulge jumps, breakages, and rotations. Pacific Island dancing will bring the exciting and colorful dances from Hawaii, Tahiti, Samoa, and New Zealand.

EXCEPTIONAL FAMILY MEMBER CAMP OOH RAH
A traditional Day Camp Program designed to meet the needs of children with developmental (and other) disabilities. Campers will participate in such activities as crafts, story time, sports, hiking, swimming, bowling, mini golf, Sea World, trip to a local mountain camp program (Camp-A-Little), the tide pools and a BBQ...This opportunity will also provide respite for families.
