STARBUCKS
On January 16th, 2008 the Marine Corps opened its first fully licensed STARBUCKS at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Grand Opening attendees included representatives of Allen Engineering of San Bernardino California - responsible for its construction, Navy and Marine Corps representatives from Naval Facilities/Engineering Command who executed the construction contract, Headquarters Marine Corps representatives from Quantico, Virginia who negotiated the Master Licensing Contract and several STARBUCKS executives in support of the partnership.
Brigadier General Angela Salinas - Commanding General - Marine Corps Recruit Depot-San Diego and the Western Recruiting Region expressed her pride in being the first base in the Marine Corps with a Licensed STARBUCKS as she cut the Ribbon marking this special event.
STARBUCKS at MCRD-San Diego is approximately 1300 square feet and located in a historic building adjacent to the Marine Corps Exchange complex. The partnership began with the signing of the Licensing contract in February 2007. In just over 4 months from “ground breaking” in August to our soft opening just before Christmas the location took on the personality that STARBUCKS is known for in addition to preserving the historic look and feel that is MCRD-San Diego. During this period word spread as both Marines and Civilian Marines anxiously awaited the first day of business.
MCRD-San Diego trains approximately 20,000 young men each year to become Marines. Annually approximately 80,000 family members/friends arrive for Visitors Day and Graduation Day. Visitors and guests can now experience a familiar symbol of home with STARBUCKS.
The second STARBUCKS in the Marine Corps is scheduled to open in Quantico Virginia this spring!
